When Mary was born, our family immediately knew she was something special, but we never expected that by the age of six, she’d have experienced over 20 MRIs (Magnetic resonance imaging).
At just six months old, Mary was diagnosed with a grade II atypical choroid plexus tumor on the right side of her brain and was immediately admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit.
Getting a diagnosis for your 6-month-old baby is heartbreaking. You know kids get sick, you see it on TV, but when they tell you your infant has a brain tumor, it changes you.
During one of her many surgeries, complications arose, and Mary was later diagnosed with visual impairment and epilepsy as a result.
